The Trickster Project

So I'm finally getting around to making my comment(s) about Duane McDiarmid and his exhibition! YAY! Although his presentation ran a little long, I thought that he brought up a lot of incitful and interesting ideas. Particularly, in his early work, with the use/playing with light and the images cast from the effect itself.

But most importantly is his idea involving the enviroment.

"The enviroment is our I.V. drip... You can squeeze the bag, but eventually the bag still runs out." Was the main idea behing McDiarmid's performance in dumping used motor oil all over him in a wet land area. In turn he presented the rags he used to clean himself off with (and the homemade pampers he stood on to absorb the access oil) as the "artifacts". Only the people there and "the wild life saw the art" as it happened.

I really loved this idea of presenting something to the wild life. It almost seemed like a sacrifice or paying proper omage to nature.

Overall, I was really inspired by the work McDiarmid presented. His work embodied a great intelligent idea. And I really enjoyed being there for it!
